Lord Vishnu was always encouraging each and everyone to continuously do all needed duties towards everything sincerely and truthfully. He explained to people that they should cultivate the divine qualities in within themselves and look for the divine in everthything. That he said shall enable them attain moksha (salvation).
Lord Shiva meanwhile was explaining everyone the importance of realizing and experiencing divine love. He explained to people that divine love is above all and if that is got, moksha (salvation) is there. He encouraged people to rise above their lower instincts in seeking this divine love.
The learned people explained people that carrying out the duties must be in accordance to cult, culture, status, liking and proper structures must be laid out at first for the duty of work to be executed. All this was explained to be in accordance to the doctrine of karma based upon past. This they said is how they can attain moksha.
As a result all the follower people followed all the given instructions by everybody. They started seeking divine love. For this they started seeking divinity by different divine forms. And stopped fulfilling their primary duties because of ever finding fault with the structure available. Each and everybody became obsessed with their own believed doctrine and stood tall on it.
Slowly each and everybody started crumbling from this position. Pain on account of one or other reason would catch all. The hardships increased. The sufferings increased. And all continued to move ahead forward in their firm belief of doctrine created by themselves. Finally each and everybody started explaining all this on the basis of karma theory.
A few people gathered together. They approached Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and enquired what was happenning. Why had everybody's karma suddenly transformed into badness and why were everybody suffering?
Lord Vishnu said that each and everybody had their own self to blame for this happenning. In their obsession of acquiring moksha through force of desires they had forgotten their primary duty and the primal importance of krupa (blessing) and krutagnyata (gratefulness). For this reason they had all disturbed their own karma and now have to find their way to come out of these sufferings.
Lord Shiva said that people have committed a grave mistake of undermining divine love by treating it as weakness in front of the show of strength and power. Disrespect and humiliation of divine love and compassion is itself the cause of suffering on people, Shiva said.
People prayed to the lords and requested the lord to take over their karma as they felt that it was the only way that things could be corrected.
Lord Vishnu said that if this be the way that you all think can get you all attain your desired moksha, so be it. And he said, 'Tathastu'. He blessed them all such. And then both the lords vanished.
From that day the lord took over all the duties on himself. Since that day the lord is found be seen saying such to people: "Bhakta Jano (devoted people), you devote your life involving in satsangh and gnan chintan. And let the lord take care of everything that be needed done by you for you. Always pray god that let it be such for you".
Since the time this happenned, people who are spiritual in outlook are seen to be drawn towards communities and places where bhajans are done, where discourses are given and where mass yagnas and prayers are done. They all feel that doing thus, the grace of lord reaches them. And this ultimately reaches them to their goal of moksha.
