The Mythology:
When complete chaos filled in the universe and not a single person was spared of effects of disturbance, not knowing what to do in this situation, people engaged in prayers to god to help them out of these miseries and difficulties. But still nothing was happenning. Many gods came and tried to help. But they could not help and the miseries continued.
Finally people approached Lord Vishnu who was relaxing under the shade of his glorious sheshnag. They pleaded to him to save them from this difficulty. So Lord Vishnu advised them to go and approach Lord Ganesha for this explaining them that he is the Vighneshwara and hence you should always go to him when facing any difficulty or hardship. If he agrees to help you then your difficulties shall be gone.
He further advised them that henceforth always remember this advise, particularly when commencing any auspicious work or making new beginnings, always at first take the blessings of Vighneshwara. Doing this, you can remain assured that no difficulties can come your way in the task.
People asked how to seek Lord Ganesha's blessing for this if he was not available or found anywhere. Lord Vishnu smiled and said that go and do the prayer of Shubha Mangala and your work shall be done even without approaching the Vighneshwara.
