Mythology Related With Lord Panduranga:
Lord Panduranga is considered as same as Lord Balaji, but with a difference. While Lord Balaji is more aligned with the rich and famous, Lord Panduranga is more aligned with weak and hard-working.
Once there was a devotee of Lord Panduranga at Pandharpur in Maharashtra. He was very sincere, truthful and hard-working. He used to fulfil all his responsibilities towards work and family truthfully and even used to extend his helping hand for anybody in need. He was hence very popular with his village folk.
But the rich and dominating people of this village who wished to become prominent did not like this. They felt that as long as this common man is popular, they would never rise in recognition in this village. So they plotted out very well planned schemes and went out to make the life of this common man miserable.
The devotee was surrounded by difficulties and hardships from everywhere and there was no real help around even though there were many people who carried a soft corner for him. The rich and dominating went to the extent that anybody helping this devotee was also put under suffering and hardship. This scared the people. The devotee did not wish anybody else to suffer because of him against whom this plot was worked out. So he prayed to Lord Panduranga to help him out.
Lord Panduranga immediately appeared in the devotee's house and called upon the devotee. But the devotee made the lord wait as he was busy attending to the needs of his ailing parents. A long time passed by but the devotee could not leave his parents as he tried his best to relieve them of their suffering. Finally, when his parents were well rested and relieved from their pains, the devotee reached to the lord and asked for forgiveness for his delay in coming there.
The lord was greatly appealed by the dedication that this devotee had for his parents and in knowing of his condition promised him that he would look into the whole matter and do justice. As the lord was about to vanish, the devotee saught his blessing and fulfilment of one wish only. The lord asked what was it? To this, the devotee said that he only wishes that the lord continues to stay in their house always.
The lord could not refuse to this. But the lord could not even stay there. So he said that if the devotee would be willing to be equally devoted to his consort Goddess Rukmini, he shall stay there. But since the lord could not force his consort to stay there, the devotee only would have to appease the goddess.
The devotee agreed to this. And the lord asked the goddess also to appear there. When Goddess Rukmini appeared, she was very angry at the devotee who had made the lord wait so long. The devotee explained the whole episode to her and asked for her forgiveness for having made the lord wait there for so long. And also requested her to stay along with the lord in their house promising her that not just him, but the whole house shall hold equal devotion and respect for her also.
Goddess Rukmini knew it very well what Lord Vitthala had in his heart. So she agreed to stay there. Thus both, Lord Vitthala and Goddess Rukmini continued to stay in the devotee's house.
Simply with this staying in house, all sufferings of the devotee ceased to exist and their family life was filled in with happiness and prosperity.
